Police Ensure Clash Of 2 Residents Groups In Central Maluku Is Not Related To SARA: It's A Land Problem

JAKARTA - Deputy Head of the Ambon Island and Lease Islands Police, AKBP Hery Budianto, emphasized that the conflict on Haruku Island was not related to ethnic, religious, racial and inter-group (SARA) issues.

"The problems that occurred in the Kariuw and Ori countries of Haruku Island are not related to SARA issues, but land issues," he said, in Ambon, Wednesday, January 26, as reported by Antara.

He said that the problem on Haruku Island was an unresolved land issue, causing a dispute that continues to this day.

"It's not a sara problem but a land issue, so please help the media to straighten it out through the news, that the problem there is just a land issue, later the law enforcement in Haruku will investigate it," he said.

He said that currently conditions on Haruku Island are getting better and security forces have been dispatched to secure it.

"The situation is safe there, the Police and TNI have also been deployed to maintain security," he said.

He alluded to the data on the number of victims, residents' houses that were burned while still being recorded.

"Regarding the victims, we have to collect the houses because we don't know for sure how many there are," he said.
