BADUNG - A video of a man swimming on Kuta Beach, Badung Regency, Bali, surrounded by plastic waste and seaweed has gone viral on social media.

The video was uploaded by the @masa_savenseas account with the caption, "Bath with the postage garbage", it wrote.

Head of the Division Management of Hygiene and Hazardous Toxic Materials (B3) of the Environmental and Hygiene Service of Badung Regency, Bali, Anak Agung Gede Agung Dalem, confirmed that the video was recorded on Kuta Beach.

"Yes, it's true that now grass waste has landed and a little bit of plastic, but there's a lot of seaweed", said Agung Dalem when contacted, Tuesday, January 25.

This stretch of garbage will indeed continue to arrive during the west wind season and its peak until March 2022.

"Waste is seasonal, so every year there is a west season. Coincidentally, when it comes to the rainy season, usually until March, the garbage will continue to arrive in waves with different variations with the magnitude of currents and winds. At this time, it just so happens that there is a lot of seaweed", added Agung Dalem.

However, currently, the garbage that comes is seaweed and plastic waste. In contrast to last week's arrival was garbage in the form of sticks and wooden twigs.

Agung Dalem said, to clean up the garbage, wait for it to end up on the beach.

"We, the district government, have the authority (to clean) the coast. It means that on land, those at sea are part of the provincial authority, furthermore the national (government)", he explained.

Meanwhile, the total garbage that has been cleaned up until the end of December 2021 along the coast in the Badung Regency area has reached 1,800 tons.

"From the end of December, we have recorded around 1,800 tons. As per day yesterday at Kuta Beach alone, about 10 tons of four trucks", said Agung Dalem.

Meanwhile, the condition of the garbage on Kuta Beach, Bali, has now been cleaned by deploying around 120 cleaners.

"It's been cleaned now. Usually, we've cleaned up around the time we stay, in the late afternoon or evening may be landing again.

The officers every day are around 300 people and for Kuta Beach around 120 people. If (the garbage) is pulled over, we will take it", he said.
