GIANYAR - A fire in a resident's house that caused a Piasan or sacred building in Banjar Tengkulak Kaler, Sukawati, Gianyar Regency, Bali, is suspected to have been caused by a bird.

Police suspect the fire occurred when the birds were about to make nests using incense sticks that were still burning.

"The cause of the fire is thought to be due to an incensed fire carried by sparrows that will make their nests on the roof of the palm fiber in the sacred Piasan building", said Sukawati Police Chief, Kompol I Made Ariawan on Monday, January 24.

The fire incident occurred on Saturday, January 22 morning. Some children saw a puff of smoke from Gusti Putu Jingga's Piasan Pura Merajan. The fire soon grew bigger.

The victim tried to extinguish the fire with the residents, including contacting the Gianyar fire department. Not long after, 2 fire engines arrived at the scene.

"So that the fire can be extinguished at 10:00 WITA. The item that is burning is a building measuring 3 meters X 6.5 meters. The loss is estimated to be around IDR 50 million", said Ariawan.
