6 Bandung Residents Exposed To Omicron, Acting Mayor Yana Mulyana Intensify Transmission Source Tracking

JAKARTA - Acting Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana, confirmed that his party would trace the source of the local transmission that caused six residents to be exposed to the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

According to Yana, the six people may have contracted the Omicron variant locally, because they have no history of overseas travel. "So we are tracing correctly, where they might get their exposure," said Yana in Bandung, Antara, Friday, January 21.

Fast steps to track variants need to be taken because Omicron is a very fast-transmitting variant. "So the central government is reminded that one day this distribution will occur in all regions, including the city of Bandung," he said.

Even so, he said the public need not panic over the Omicron case in Bandung. According to him, health protocols are the key to fight COVID-19.

"I think friends, of course, have always reminded residents to only use health protocols in crowded places. Insha Allah the key is health protocols," he said.

The six people were declared confirmed Omicron based on the results of the Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) test conducted by the Regional Health Laboratory (Labkesda) of West Java. The six people are known to be residents of the city of Bandung.
