Receives IDR 3 Trillion Fund Injection, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin Says Bank Muamalat Is Healthy

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said Bank Muamalat's condition is getting healthier after receiving an injection of funds from the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH).

"For now, it's just the management of hajj funds, yes, from BPKH. Now it's healthy," said the vice president in a written statement in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, January 21.

BPKH disbursement of funds to PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia Tbk. (BMI) was recorded at IDR 3 trillion. With this fund, BPKH is the main shareholder.

Ma'ruf added that the injection of funds to Bank Muamalat is one solution to improve the condition of the Islamic bank. "The steps being taken now are how to make Bank Muamalat healthy. One of them is that there needs to be an injection because investors from abroad do not increase their capital," he said.

With the injection of funds from BPKH, Ma'ruf hopes that in the future Bank Muamalat will get more investors so that the condition of the Islamic financial institution will improve.

"In the future, it is expected that many investors will enter Bank Muamalat. So, this is just the start of BPKH, I think so," he said.

Ma'ruf Amin who once served as Chairman of the Sharia Supervisory Board (DPS) has received a report on the condition of Bank Muamalat.

"Bank Muamalat is actually healthy, yesterday's report I received. It is healthy because steps have been taken," he said.

BPKH acquired Bank Muamalat by participating in a rights issue of IDR 1 trillion. The commitment to strengthen the capital was followed by the purchase of subordinated sukuk worth IDR 2 trillion with an expected return of 9 percent.
