JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo stressed that the world today needs a permanent solution in dealing with unexpected health problems.

"In the future, we need a permanent solution so that the world can face unexpected health problems", President Jokowi said in his speech while attending the World Economic Forum virtually from the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, quoted by Antara on Thursday, January 20.

President Jokowi said that all parties must evaluate the current conditions. According to him, the COVID-19 crisis shows the fragility of global health resilience in all countries.

The President is of the view that current collaborations such as the Covax Facility are only a temporary solution and the role of WHO has not covered many strategic matters for the life of the world.

Therefore, President Jokowi stressed the need for a permanent solution in dealing with unexpected health problems.

President Jokowi emphasized that the G20 Indonesian Presidency will fight for the strengthening of the architecture of the world health security system run by a world body such as the IMF in the financial sector tasked with mobilizing world health resources, including financing for world health emergencies, purchasing vaccines, purchasing medicines, and purchasing health care products. medical devices.

Then formulate global health protocol standards which include regulating cross-border travel so that health protocol standards in all countries can be the same, as well as empowering developing countries in terms of local manufacturing capacity in the form of managing patents for access to investment technology in medical devices and medicines.

"Co-financing is needed for the new architecture of the world health resilience system", said President Jokowi.

According to President Jokowi, the architectural cost is far less than the world's loss due to the fragility of the global health system in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Developed countries should not object to supporting this joint initiative. Of course the G20 will play a very important role in driving the development of this global health resilience architecture. This means that a joint agreement is needed at the G20 first", he said.
