JAKARTA - Joint officers dismantle the flood embankment that was built by residents of RT 09/10 on Jalan Teluk Tomini, Kavling TNI Navy, Pondok Bambu Village, Duren Sawit District, East Jakarta.

The village head of Pondok Bambu, Asianti Yasmuarsih, confirmed the demolition of the 50-centimeter high and 5-meter-long wall.

"Today, the joint officers have dismantled it," said Lurah Asianti to reporters, Sunday, January 16.

The demolition of the wall on Jalan Teluk Tomini bordering RT 09/10 and RT 13/11 was carried out in a persuasive manner. The officers first approached the wall builder and local residents.

"Earlier we were persuasive. The builder of the wall was also present in our midst, because there was an approach, finally it was demolished this morning," Asianti told reporters.

The Lurah further said that the demolition of the wall went smoothly without any protests from local residents.

"It went smoothly, thank God there were no (resident protests)," he said.

The joint officers who attended the demolition of the wall included the Head of the Duren Sawit Sub-district, Head of the Water Resources Service, Head of the Transportation Service Office, Head of the Highways, Sub-District and Sub-District Satpol PP, Bhabinkamtibmas, the wall builder, Pondok Bambu Urban Village PPSU officers, head of RW 11 and 10 and residents around the location. As is known, Alex (55), a resident of RT 09/10, said that the walls built by Jalan Teluk Tomini Blok A5 and A1 were deliberately made by residents to stem the flow of rainwater into their area.

"The construction has been going on for almost two weeks. To prevent the flood from overflowing here," Alex told reporters.

Alex further said that it was recognized that the wall was standing on a public road. However, according to him, the wall is a symbol of protest by a number of residents of RT 09/10, the Navy Lot.

The reason is, the area is often hit by floods and has never received a solution from the related parties.

"If it's not like this (building the wall) the water won't end. There's no solution anymore. Leave it like this, so there will be a solution. Let people get busy, meaning this wall is made so that there will be attention from above (relevant officials)," he said.
