JAKARTA - An aerial power cable located on Kalisari Raya Street, RT 06/01, Pasar Rebo District, East Jakarta emitted sparks. The fire burned all parts of the cable until it spread to power poles and trees.

As a result of the burning of the electric cable, some of the cables were cut and almost hit residents and motorcyclists who were passing on the road. Not surprisingly, the drivers were forced to turn around for fear of being hit by sparks from the burning wires.

Head of East Jakarta Sub-dept. of Fire and Rescue, Gatot Sulaeman said the burned aerial cable belonged to PLN. The cause is suspected to be an electrical short.

"Initially, PPSU (Handling of Public Infrastructure & Facilities) saw sparks in the PLN cable and then went to the 520.1 fire department post. We deployed 2 fire trucks with 10 personnel to the location", Gatot told reporters, Thursday, January 13.

Luckily the fire did not spread to other shophouses in the vicinity of the burning cable object. Within 15 minutes, the fire was extinguished by officers.

PLN technician officer Nanang said the fire was caused by a short circuit.

"It was caused by a short circuit in the cable and it spread to other cables until some cables were cut off", he said.

The burning of the aerial power line resulted in a power outage. Then the officers replaced the burnt cables with new cables for two hours.
