If Approved, The Police Will Arrange A Bicycle Safety Scheme On The Toll Road

JAKARTA - The Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya will prepare a security scheme for cyclists who will cross the inner-city toll road in Jakarta. However, this will only be done after a decision is made regarding the permit.

"If it is approved later, we will make studies on how to protect it and so on," said Dirlantas Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo to reporters, Friday, August 28.

"Right now the letter from the DKI Regional Government is being addressed to the PUPR Ministry, we are of course waiting for the PUPR decision," he said.

Previously, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan suggested that road bikes could enter the toll road on Sundays.

The proposed inner-city toll road section, starting from the Kebon Nanas Toll Gate to the direction of Tanjung Priok, uses one side of the road.

The proposal to use one toll road section for racing bicycles will be submitted to the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono.

"The governor proposed to the Minister of PUPR to prepare a toll road as a temporary bicycle lane for sports bikes on Sundays from 6 to 9 WIB," said Syafrin.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Sport Bicycle Association (ISSI) Community, Toto Ame, disagreed with the proposal to provide a special road bike path on the toll road that was thrown by DKI Governor Anies Baswedan.

"We strongly disagree with the provision of bicycle lanes on inner-city toll roads. Don't make strange policies," said Toto when contacted by VOI, Wednesday, August 26.
