Yesterday's Rain And Strong Winds, 9 Trees In Central Jakarta Collapsed On Top Of Vehicles

JAKARTA - Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds caused a number of trees in Central Jakarta to fall on Wednesday, January 12, evening.

Based on the records of the Central Jakarta City Parks and Forests Sub-dept., there were 5 fallen trees and 4 splintered trees in a number of different locations.

A banyan tree in the Gambir Health Center area fell, resulting in one car and three motorbikes being damaged by a tree. The fall of this banyan tree did not cause any injuries or fatalities.

Furthermore, a series tree on Jalan Banyuwangi, Menteng District with a trunk diameter of 25 cm suddenly fell. A series tree on Jalan Bungur, Kemayoran District was also found to have fallen and damaged a resident's motorbike. Furthermore, the sandpaper type tree with a diameter of 20 centimeters on Jalan Kramat Raya, Senen District, fell.

"A banyan tree on Jalan Salemba Tengah, Senen District with a trunk diameter of 20 centimeters also fell. There were no injuries or damage to the motorbike," he said, Thursday, January 13.

Meanwhile, teak splinter trees occur in the Sunda Kelapa Mosque, Menteng District. Then a rubber tree on Jalan Teuku Umar, Menteng was found to have splinters in the trunk of about 40 centimeters.

Then the cape tree on Jalan Banyumas, Menteng District with a diameter of 25 centimeters also experienced splinters.

Even the tabebuia tree which is located in the Regional Strategic Area (KSD) of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government on Jalan Cikini, Menteng District is also broken.

Head of the Green Line for Parks and Central Jakarta City Forests, Budi Hidayat, said the fallen tree due to the rain on Wednesday afternoon had an impact on tree trunks that could not withstand the wind. The incident resulted in residents who wanted to cross being disturbed because they blocked the road.

"We have also deployed three trucks to transport the tree trunks and one crane," he said, Thursday, January 13.

All the fallen trees and splinters have been followed up by 20 Other Service Providers Individuals (PJLP) personnel and assisted by Handling of Public Infrastructure & Facilities (PPSU) from the local village.
