JAKARTA - Who knows you are relaxing at one of the five-star hotels in Padang or Bukittingi, West Sumatra. Remember, the hotel sandals you may be wearing are made from the hands of prisoners at the Class IIA Muaro Padang Penitentiary.

So far, their works have been sent there. And just for information, they are trying to increase the production target of hotel slippers from 5,000 pairs per month in 2021 to 10,000 at this time.

"This year we are targeting to produce ten thousand pairs of hotel slippers in a month, as a step to boost productivity and economic potential," said Head of the Class IIA Lapas Activities and Work Section Padang Syafri Naldi in Padang, Tuesday, January 11, as quoted from Antara.

The sandals made by the inmates are also getting more attention from hotels for cooperation, because they have succeeded in maintaining product quality. The proof is that there are currently six hotels that have collaborated with Padang Prisons.

"Hotels that cooperate are not only in Padang, but also in Bukittinggi. Three of them are five-star hotels," said Head of the Work Guidance Sub-Section M Fadli.

He is optimistic that the Sandal production unit, which is part of the independence program, can continue to be developed in the future, considering that in 2021 his party will be able to produce five thousand pairs of sandals in one month, with an income of Rp17 million.

"Therefore, this year we have started to boost the number of productions and intensify marketing to business entities," he said.

Fadli revealed that since the beginning of January there have been two hospitals that are in the middle of establishing communication to use sandals from the Padang Prison. Along with the increase in the amount of production, Padang Lapas also added its workforce from 10 inmates to 21 people.

Padang Prison continues to carry out regular post-production evaluations to maintain the quality of the sandals made.

"We will evaluate after the production is complete, whether it is in accordance with the demand from consumers, and which parts need to be repaired," he said.
