The Story Of Kovid, A Male Name From India And A Joke In The Midst Of A Pandemic

JAKARTA - COVID-19 leaves a deep sadness for mankind. And the virus attack hasn't stopped yet while you're reading this news.

So what if you have a name similar to the name of the virus that is the common enemy of this planet? Ask Kovid Kapoor.

Even though they can have the same name, there is no slightest intention for Kovid to change his birth certificate.

Reporting from The Indian Express, January 7, Kovid Kapoor is the co-founder of travel planning site Holidify. He did not feel disturbed even though the name COVID was hated by millions of victims' families.

Kovid Kapoor tries to make peace. And he even made a joke of this same name.

"My name is Kovid and I'm not a virus," Kovid Kapoor tweeted.

Kovid tweeted how people were amused by his name as he made his first overseas trip since the pandemic began. Soon, his tweet garnered a lot of attention, and talked about how he took this as an opportunity to make some lighthearted jokes in a gloomy moment.

For example, he posted a photo of himself holding a corona drink. "Hey look it's koving having corona".

The 31-year-old Bengaluru-based entrepreneur admits that running a travel business through the pandemic has been a nightmare. But his sense of humor helps keep his mood light.

“We were under a lot of pressure to manage our company, and now we are staring at another wave that has just started. I almost always start my calls with new people with a quick joke about my name!” he said.

There are times where he says even Gmail is confused about the name. He also admits that he sometimes doesn't use his real name; revealing his name made everyone in the coffee shop laugh.

Asked if he was ever bothered by the jokes, the man said he had learned to take things in stride. "It's a joke that probably won't grow old for the rest of my life, so I'm at peace with that," he said.

“But sometimes, when I'm not in the mood to chat—over coffee, book a table reservation, I use an alternative name—Kabir Kapoor—so I don't get a chance to talk about it,” he admits.
