JAKARTA - The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) has not extended the work contracts of eight alleged perpetrators of sexual violence and bullying of MS victims.

KPI Commissioner Hardly Stefano Fenelon said the eight suspected perpetrators with the initials RM alias O, TS and SG, RT, FP, EO, CL, and TK, were no longer contracted as KPI employees as of January 1, 2022.

"It is true, the alleged perpetrators are no longer contracted as KPI employees. As of January 1, 2022," Stefano said, quoted by Antara, Friday, January 7.

Stefano explained that there were three things that became the basis for KPI's consideration not to extend the work contract, namely the results of the Komnas HAM investigation that it was true that the victim experienced the incident as reported.

Second, KPI assesses that recovery efforts are needed for victims, one of which is by not allowing the victim to be in the same working environment as the alleged perpetrator.

Third, the victim's report is currently being followed up through the investigation process by the police.

"Therefore, while still prioritizing the principle of presumption of innocence, it is better for the alleged perpetrators to concentrate on completing the ongoing legal process," Stefano said.

In line with that, KPI Commissioner Nuning Rodiyah said that the eight alleged perpetrators had indeed expired their work contracts as of December 31, 2021. With a number of assessments, KPI decided not to extend their work contracts.

"It's not a question of being dismissed or not, we've done an evaluation and it was decided not to be extended," he said.

In addition to the assessment from the National Police, Nuning explained that the decision was also made based on the performance portfolio of the alleged perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the victim of bullying and sexual harassment, MS, was extended his work contract at KPI because he had completed the required requirements.

There were also cases of harassment and bullying within the scope of the Central KPI which were revealed after MS shared a statement that he experienced bullying and harassment from his co-workers in the 2012-2020 period.

After the statement went viral, MS also ventured to report to the Central Jakarta Police for the unfortunate incident that he had to experience in a matter of years.

He has also attended examinations to resolve his case, including fulfilling invitations and an investigation conducted by the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM).

Then at the end of November 2021, Komnas HAM finally submitted several recommendations for handling cases of harassment and bullying within the KPI.

The recommendation is that the Central KPI is asked to make guidelines for dealing with sexual harassment until a recommendation is also addressed to the Ministry of Communications and Informatics which requests an evaluation of the KPI structure considering that the institution is under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics.
