A Number Of Facts About OTT In Bekasi: Mayor Rahmat Effendi Entangled In Finding Money

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) held a hand arrest operation (OTT) in the Bekasi area, West Java. In the silent operation, the anti-corruption commission ensnared a number of parties, including the Mayor of Bekasi Rahmat Effendi or who is usually called Kang Pepen.

Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron, confirmed that his party was holding an OTT in Bekasi. He revealed that the operation was carried out on Wednesday, January 5 at around 14.00 western Indonesia time.

"It is true that the KPK has actively arrested state officials in the Bekasi area, West Java," said Ghufron when confirmed by reporters.

He did not specify who was involved in the operation. However, Ghufron confirmed that Pepen was also brought in for inspection.

In addition, he also revealed the discovery of money. However, it did not specify how much money was found when the action was carried out.

"We have secured several parties together with some money," he said.

Complementing Ghufron's statement, KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri said Pepen and a number of parties caught in the operation were undergoing investigation.

"The Mayor of Bekasi and several related people are being investigated," said Firli.

He asked the public to be patient because his subordinates are still working to investigate the alleged corruption that occurred in Bekasi.

Moreover, Pepen only arrived at the KPK building at around 22:55 western Indonesia time. When he arrived, he remained silent and did not comment on his arrest.

"Later in time we will convey it to the public. Please let us work first," said Firli.

Rahmat Effendi has a lot of land

Pepen has served as Mayor of Bekasi for two periods, namely in 2013-2018 to 2018-2023. He is a Golkar Party politician and currently serves as Chairman of the DPP.

In the State Administrators Wealth Report (LHKPN) submitted on February 18, 2021 to the KPK, Pepen is noted to have 39 assets in the form of land and buildings spread across the Bekasi and Subang areas, West Java.

All of these assets have a value of Rp6,346,0002,000. In addition, he also recorded other assets in the form of transportation equipment worth Rp810 million.

Details of the vehicle he owns are a 2003 Toyota Crown sedan type SPR SL with a value of Rp165 million; 1997 Chrysler Cher LTD CONTR 4.0 worth Rp240 million; 1998 Jeep Cherokee with a value of Rp240 million; and a 1995 Jeep Cherokee worth Rp165 million.

Through the report, it is known that Rahmat Effendi has assets in the form of other movable assets worth Rp170 million and cash and cash equivalents of Rp610,915,238. Thus, his total assets reached Rp7,936,917,238.

However, Pepen also recorded debts amounting to Rp1,553,199,591 so that his total wealth was around Rp6,383,717,647.
