NTB DPRD Asks People To Remain Calm Regarding Mass Attacks On As-Sunnah Islamic Boarding School

MATARAM - Deputy Chairperson of the West Nusa Tenggara DPRD, H Muzihir, appealed to the people of Lombok to exercise restraint and maintain regional conditions following the anarchic action that took place at the As-Sunnah Islamic Boarding School, Bagek Nyake, East Lombok Regency.

"All parties, including FKUB, MUI, community and religious leaders and the community must participate in creating conducive conditions for the region and be able to exercise restraint," he said in Mataram, quoted by Antara, Monday, January 3.

Muzihir stated that if the issue was extended it was feared that it would disrupt regional stability, which would affect the Mandalika MotoGP in March 2022.

"That's why NTB must be kept safe. If this is the case, who will lose," he said.

His party has held a meeting with a number of elements, including the police, the Regional Office of the NTB Ministry of Religion, the Religious Communication Forum (FKUB), the NTB Regional Secretary, MUI and others.

During the meeting, it was agreed to immediately anticipate various possibilities, including securing Ustadz Mizan Qudsiyah, who was considered one of the sources of chaos.

However, Muzihir did not want to speculate whether the incident was indicated to thwart the Mandalika MotoGP event. According to him, no matter how small the events in Lombok will still be in the public spotlight.

"NTB is currently the host for the MotoGP. Not only is it the pride of the region, but also the pride of Indonesia. Let's protect this area together," said Muzihir.

The Regional Office of the NTB Ministry of Religion also appealed to the public not to be provoked following the circulation of video footage of a religious figure from the As-Sunnah Islamic Boarding School Ustadz Mizan Qudsiah whose remarks allegedly discredited the sacred tombs of the ancestors on Lombok Island, causing the destruction of the As-Sunnah Bagek Nyaka Islamic Boarding School, Aikmal District, East Lombok.

"We hope that the public will prioritize persuasive methods, so that they don't become anarchic," said the Head of the Regional Office of the NTB Ministry of Religion, Zaidi Abdad.

Zaidi Abdad asked the public to fully hand over the matter to law enforcement officers, namely the police, to investigate the case thoroughly.
