Mimika Regency Government: This Omicron Variant, We Must Be Really Alert

TIMIKA - The Mimika Regency Government, Papua Province, is wary of the spread of the new variant of Omicron COVID-19 in the area from travelers after the Christmas and New Year's 2022 holidays.

Mimika Deputy Regent Johannes Rettob said, to prevent the entry of the Omicron Varian in Mimika, tightening must be carried out at port entrances, both at Mozes Kilangin Airport in Timika and Pomako Port.

"We have to be really careful with this Omicron variant, don't let it enter Mimika. Therefore, tightening on people who have just returned from the Christmas and New Year holidays must really be carried out," said John as quoted by Antara, Monday, January 3.

According to the former Head of the Mimika Transportation and Communications Office, every passenger who has just arrived at Timika Airport and Pomako Port must be checked, whether it is true that they are free from COVID-19 as evidenced by a negative certificate from the results of antigen and PCR examinations.

"Not because they are people from Timika and then they come back and because they know the officers then they are safe. Not like that, everyone must be properly examined," he said.

Data from the Mimika Health Service as of January 2, 2022, there are no more COVID-19 patients in the area, both those being treated in health facilities and those undergoing self-isolation. On January 2, 2022, 109 swab specimens were examined and none were confirmed positive for COVID-19. .

The condition without any new findings of COVID-19 cases in Mimika has been going on for the past 14 days.

The total swab specimens that have been examined in Mimika from 2020 to January 2, 2022 are 110,270 with the number of positive confirmed cases as many as 9,727 people, who have completed isolation as many as 9,534 people and 193 people who died from exposure to COVID-19.

Mimika Health Office data also mentions the health facilities that have been treating COVID-19 patients, namely a number of health centers in the Timika City area, Mimika Hospital as a referral hospital, PT Freeeport Indonesia Kuala Kencana Clinic, Tembagapura Hospital and Mitra Masyarakat Hospital.
