LUMAJANG - Two bodies of victims of the Mount Semeru hot cloud disaster (APG) were found at the sand mining site of PT Duta Semeru owned by Satuhan in Sumberwuluh Village, Lumajang Regency, East Java.

"Incidentally, there was heavy equipment working to suffocate the river and it was seen that a truck was buried under Mount Semeru's lava material", said Head of the Emergency Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Division of the Lumajang Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Joko Sambang, quoted by Antara on Thursday, December 30.

According to him, the two bodies were found behind the wheel in a truck with police number  P-8485-KB at the Satuhan sand mining site in North Kebondeli, Sumberwuluh Village, Candipuro District, Lumajang Regency.

"The bodies are suspected to be a sand truck driver named Hambali (58) and his son M Faisal Akbar (20) residents of Purwoasri Village, Gumukmas District, Jember Regency because when they were found there was a relative who confirmed the two bodies", he said.

The Lumajang BPBD received a report that the two miners were missing during a hot cloud fall on December 4, 2021, because they were still working when the disaster occurred.

Joko explained that the two bodies were evacuated and taken to the Dr. Haryoto Lumajang Regional General Hospital to be identified by the East Java Police DVI team.

Meanwhile, Commander of Kodim 0821 Lumajang, Lt. Col. Inf. Andi Andriyanto Wibowo, said the two male bodies were still at Dr. Haryoto Lumajang Hospital.

"The two bodies are still in the identification process and have not been released by the Task Force", he said.

Previously, the search and rescue operation (SAR) for the hot cloud disaster from Mount Semeru in Lumajang Regency was officially closed on Thursday, December 16, at 18.00 WIB, but there are still several volunteers who are still searching for victims who are declared missing.

Three locations are the focus of the search for the joint SAR Team in searching for victims of the hot clouds falling from Mount Semeru during the emergency response period, namely in Renteng Village, Kobokan Bulk, and a sand mining location.
