Alert For Extreme Weather, BMKG Calls Sea Waves In North Maluku Reaches 4-6 Meters

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Sultan Baabullah Ternate, appealed to all sea transport users to be careful, as extreme weather hit the waters of North Maluku following high sea waves of up to 4-6 meters accompanied by strong winds.

"We have conveyed all the results of weather conditions updates and asked to be aware of the potential for waves as high as 4-6 meters, especially in the waters of West Halmahera, East Halmahera, Morotai, Batang Dua, South Halmahera to the Sula Islands," said BMKG Weather Forecaster Sultan Baabullah Ternate, Fahmi Bachdar in Ternate, reported by Antara on Tuesday, December 28.

In addition, said Fahmi, his party has conveyed the potential for high waves accompanied by floods, landslides, fallen trees, and coastal waves that can occur in extreme weather conditions.

In fact, the potential for heavy rains accompanied by strong winds for the next two days, especially in the waters of Morotai Island, Galela, Jailolo, Batang Dua, and several waters in South Halmahera.

He said this was based on the observation that the 1000 HPA low-pressure pattern in northern Australia continued to strengthen and caused a convergence pattern in most of North Maluku.

According to Fahmi, this is due to the phenomenon and the potential for heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning.

However, it is generally cloudy with the potential for light-moderate rain in the Ternate, Jailolo, Tidore, Galela, Ibu, Kedi, Susupu, Loloda, Morotai, and surrounding areas and generally cloudy with the potential for light-moderate rain in the Morotai, Tobelo, Loloda, Kayoa areas, Sula Besi, Obi, Bacan and its surroundings with air temperature: 27⁰C – 31⁰C, humidity: 70 – 88%, the wind blows from the northwest – northeast; 05 – 50 km/hour.
