'The Body Bends, Like A Chicken Wants To Be Roasted', Abdul Rosyid's Story, A Security Guard Who Was Struck By Lightning While Using An Umbrella

JAKARTA - Abdul Rosyid (35), a security guard who was struck by lightning in the CKB II Loading Area, Jalan Pal II, RT 04/03 Sukapura Village, Cilincing District, North Jakarta, is now starting to improve.

Abdul is currently undergoing the recovery process at his home, which is located on Jalan Tambun Rengas RT 06/07, Cakung Timur Village, Cakung District, East Jakarta.

"For now I'm resting, recovering, later I will check (to the hospital) again on the 30th," Abdul told reporters, Monday, December 27.

Abdul also explained that he could now stand or walk but could not for a long time. Because it's still in the healing stage.

"Stand up Alhamdulillah (can) but not completely for long," he said.

This is quite good, because previously when he was still being treated at the Harbor Hospital, Koja, North Jakarta, Abdul could only lie down. It was only four days later, assisted by taking medication from a doctor's prescription, that he could stand up and walk a little. His body is more relaxed, not stiff.

It can be seen that most of the left side of Abdul's body is bandaged because of burns caused by lightning strikes. The body parts are the left arm, left chest and abdomen, left leg, and right ankle.

"(Injury) stomach (left), left leg, left hand, right leg under (ankle). The wound looks like someone got cooking oil (hot)," he said.

He also explained what had happened to him. At that time, Monday, December 20 before sunset, he was on patrol.

The weather conditions at that time were drizzling. He admitted that he was wearing a full uniform which he considered safe.

Furthermore, Abdul admitted that when walking in the drizzle, he wore an umbrella with an iron tip, a handy talky (HT) on his left shoulder and an active cellphone (HP).

"What I brought with me at that time was an umbrella, HT on my left shoulder, and my cellphone. The cellphone was still on (active), there was no communication, I held it, just walked, it was spontaneous (stricken by lightning)," he said.

Then, when struck by lightning, Abdul admitted that at first he was on his stomach, then he was lying on his back in a stiff body condition due to the lightning strike.

"My body is stiff, only the tips of my fingers and toes can move. For a stiff body, it bends like a chicken about to be roasted," he said.

At the time of the incident, Abdul admitted that he was conscious. Other employees were quick to help him.

"Employees scattered to save me, he took his uniform to cover me, maybe that's what I said earlier, this (clothing) was destroyed, carried, taken to Tugu Hospital, Pelabuhan," he said.

The meaning of the statement that his clothes were destroyed, said Abdul, was in the same condition as a burnt object. As a result of being struck by lightning, Abdul continued, he suffered burns by 65 percent.

He also remembers that terrible moment. When struck by lightning, Abdul immediately surrendered to God about life and death.
