JAKARTA - Six residents of the Class IIB Prison in Cianjur, West Java, who are Christians, received remission during the 2021 Christmas celebration.

They received various reductions in their detention periods ranging from 15 days to a month and a half, said Head of Class II B Cianjur Headquarters Heri Aris Susila in Cianjur, Saturday.

He said the number of inmates who are Christians in the prison are seven people, but one of them is still a prisoner who has not become an inmate.

"Of the seven Christian prisoners, six of them have received Christmas remission, while one person did not because he was still a prisoner. The seven people can still celebrate Christmas even in prison," he said, quoted from Antara.

The six inmates who received remission had an average of six months in prison, and behaved well while in prison, including not related to drug trafficking or use.

The granting of remission is based on a Certificate (SK) from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

"Those who get remission are inmates because they are caught in various cases, drugs, not general crimes and other cases," he said.

Meanwhile, last Christmas, he added, there were 12 inmates who received remissions. However, this year, only seven Christian inmates have served their sentences. It hopes that those who receive remission will continue to behave well so that they are immediately released and do not return to prison.
