Chairman Of PKB Hopes Kiai Miftah-Gus Yahya Duet Gives Many Innovations At PBNU

JAKARTA - Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar congratulated the election of KH. Miftachul Akhyar as Rais Aam and KH. Yahya Cholil Staquf as General Chairperson of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board for the period 2021-2026.

"Congratulations on the election of KH. Miftachul Akhyar as Rais Aam and KH. Yahya Cholil Staquf as Chairman of the PBNU Tanfidziyah. Good luck,” said Muhaimin, Friday, December 24.

Muhaimin, who is familiarly called Cak Imin, said he was happy because all stages and processes of the congress went smoothly, safely and peacefully.

“We are grateful, happy and proud, the congress went smoothly, was safe, successful, blessed, peaceful, and made everyone happy. Congratulations to all the congress organizers," he said.

The deputy chairman of the DPR said that the nahdliyin and nahdliyat were looking forward to the progress, creations and all of PBNU's services in the future under the leadership of Kiai Miftah and Gus Yahya.

"Hopefully, with the election of the Kiai Miftah and Gus Yahya duo, there will be a lot of innovation, a lot of service that adapts to the demands of the times and challenges as well as the demands of the community's needs," said Cak Imin, who is later familiarly called Gus Muhaimin.

According to him, there are two things that are PBNU's challenges, especially during this pandemic. First, the challenge of economic recovery for the Nahdliyin people. Second, the ability of public health endurance.

In addition, Cak Imin also appreciated KH. Said Aqil Siroj who has led PBNU for two periods.

"Of course we are all grateful, proud, thanks to Kiai Aqil Siroj, the chairman of PBNU two previous periods who have managed to carry out the congress successfully," he said.

He assessed that PBNU under the leadership of Said Aqil had previously run smoothly and gave birth to many innovations. "There are many new universities, great works that we must continue in the coming periods," concluded Cak Imin.

The 34th congress of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in Lampung has ended with the election of KH. Miftachul Akhyar as Rais Aam and KH. Yahya Cholil Staquf as General Chairperson of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) for the 2021-2026 period.

Gus Yahya, the familiar greeting of KH. Yahya Cholil Staquf was elected as the General Chair of PBNU after obtaining the most votes from the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Management (PWNU), Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Management (PCNU), and Nahdlatul Ulama Special Branch Management (PCINU).

The decision was made at the V Plenary Session led by the Chair and Secretary of the Steering Committee of the 34th NU Congress, Prof. Muhammad Nuh and H. Asrorun Niam Sholeh at the Multipurpose Building (GSG) University of Lampung (Unila), Friday, December 24.

Gus Yahya won 337 votes while Kiai Said as the incumbent candidate won 210 votes. Previously, KH. Miftachul Akhyar was elected through the AHWA mechanism by nine senior NU kiai who are members of AHWA.
