JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) held an impromptu inspection (sidak) to directly check food prices at the Kramat Jati Main Market, East Jakarta, ahead of Christmas and New Year.

The Assistant for the Economy and Finance of the Jakarta Secretariat, Sri Haryati, said that her party is focused on checking the prices of chilies and onions. Bearing in mind, in recent times these two foods have increased in price.

Sri revealed that the inspection results showed that the food stock was still under control, although there was a price increase that was not too conspicuous.

"We asked the traders so that the price changes very quickly and the stock is still sufficient and under control even though there are price changes," Sri said in her statement, Friday, December 24.

Meanwhile, President Director of Perumda Pasar Jaya Arief Nasrudin revealed that his party anticipates the increase in chili prices by placing several controlled atmosphere storage (CAS) machines to control the price of red chili peppers in markets in Jakarta.

CAS machines are available at the Kramatjati Main Market and a number of other traditional markets. Arief said the use of the CAS machine was carried out so that the increase in chili prices did not repeat every year.

“The CAS machine is capable of storing cayenne pepper and shallots with a shelf life of five to six months. Especially for Christmas and New Year, we sell it at a price of Rp. 90 thousand," said Arief.

Furthermore, the DKI Provincial Government also sells cheap food commodities in the form of market operations that provide promo prices to traders who are part of the Jakpreneur program. Market operations will be carried out from December 19, 2021 to January 2, 2022.

"For the location itself, it is available at 44 points where our food outlets are located. The products include packaged cooking oil, packaged flour, premium packaged sugar, premium rice, instant noodles, red onions, 1 kg CL 85 beef and frozen chicken," he explained.
