Muhaimin Iskandar's Hope At The NU Congress: Don't Vote, Deliberation Is The Best Way

LAMPUNG CENTRAL - General Chairman of Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa (PKB) Party, Muhaimin Iskandar, hopes that there will be no voting in the election of the PBNU General Chair at the 34th NU Congress. Elections can be made by deliberation and consensus.

"Alhamdullilah, the last congress was chosen through ahlul halli wal aqdi, without voting. We believe and are optimistic that deliberation and consensus is the best way", said Muhaimin Iskandar while attending the opening of the 34th NU Congress at Darussa'adah Islamic Boarding School, Gunung Sugih, Central Lampung on Wednesday, December 22.

Muhaimin also hopes that the 34th NU Congress can run smoothly, peacefully, and safely. According to him, democracy in Indonesia has matured at any election.

Therefore, the spirit and values that must be developed at the 34th NU Congress, he said, are democracy based on deliberation and consensus.

"Our nation now has more advanced democracy and has tended to recognize that deliberation and consensus is the best way of democracy", he said.

Asked about the candidates who will advance in the election of the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Chairman, Muhaimin said that whoever is elected later, is the best NU cadre.

"Either is the best, the important thing is deliberation and consensus. This (election) determines the congress, we only pray", he said.

Besides Muhaimin, several ministry officials were also present at the opening of the 34th NU Congress at Darussa'adah Islamic Boarding School, Central Lampung.

Ministers who attended included the Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah, the Minister of Villages for Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Mendes PDTT), Abdul Halim Iskandar, to the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency, Suharso Monoarfa.
