JAKARTA - Chairman of the Formula E Organizing Committee Ahmad Sahroni explained the reason for choosing the Ancol area, North Jakarta as the Formula E circuit which will be held on June 4, 2022.

Sahroni said, Ancol is an icon of Jakarta and can be a dynamic location as a circuit. This location does not interfere with the activities of the community who use the road infrastructure for their activities.

"Formula E itself is (held in) the highway area and there is no need to build a circuit from scratch, because Formula E is different, it must be built from scratch like Mandalika in the context of Formula 1 and Moto GP," said Sahroni at a press conference in Ancol, Wednesday, December 22.

Continuing, the Director of PT Jakpro Widi Amanasto explained that Ancol deserves to be a circuit because it has its own philosophy. When viewed, the electric car race route in Ancol looks like a lumping horse.

"What does the foam circuit look like? Kuda lumping. This is an iconic Jakarta issue. Then, please look to the right (Ancol) where there is an international class Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), the new iconic Jakarta," said Widi.

More specifically, the location of the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC) has 18 bends, 600 meters of straight track, clockwise direction, 2.4 kilometers of track length, and 16 meters of track width.

It is known that Jakarta will officially host Formula E on June 4, 2022. This decision was made through the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris, on October 15, 2021, which at the same time ratified the 8th season racing calendar for 2021/2022.

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan appointed the Secretary-General of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI), Ahmad Sahroni, as the chief executive of the Formula E international electric car racing event or Jakarta E-Prix.

In its implementation, Sahroni will be assisted by the General Chair of IMI, Bambang Soesatyo, who is the Chair of the Jakarta E-Prix Steering Committee.

Initially, there were five alternative locations for the Formula E event. These locations included Pantai Indah Kapuk, Sudirman (area), Jakarta International Stadium, JIExpo (Kemayoran), and Ancol. After going through site studies and surveys, Ancol was finally chosen to be the Formula E circuit.
