Ask The Government To Learn From The Delta Variant, PAN: Don't Repeat It For Omicron

JAKARTA - The National Mandate Party (PAN) reminded the government to seriously address the findings of three cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Indonesia.

According to a member of the PAN faction of the DPR RI, Guspardi Gaus, Indonesia must learn from the experience of dealing with the Delta variant which is considered less than optimal. Therefore, the Omicron variant should be taken seriously so as not to spread and become an explosion of new cases.

"The government should not be fooled. We should be ready, unlike our preparation for the Delta variant," Guspardi told reporters, Tuesday, December 21.

"We hope that the Task Force will be able to analyze the Omicron case so it doesn't spread," he continued.

The member of Commission II of the DPR assessed that the government could make changes to its policy of tightening the rules for the flow of people in welcoming the Christmas and New Year's 2022 holidays. Perhaps, said Guspardi, the homecoming ban was one way to anticipate that the Omicron variant would not spread quickly.

"Because there is a large potential crowd, the Christmas holiday is a momentum to return home to celebrate religious holidays, that must be anticipated," he said.

In addition, the government is also asked to make special policies that are stricter for foreigners or Indonesian citizens who go in and out of the country. And intensify the acceleration of vaccination, especially in areas that have not met the vaccine target.

"Even people who have not had the first vaccine, immediately open places or health facilities in the area to make it easier for people to follow the first and second stages of vaccines," said Guspardi.
