JAKARTA - East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Sudin Gulkarmat) officers caught a five-meter-long python hiding in a resident's chicken coop in the Cilangkap area, Cipayung, East Jakarta.

The snake is suspected of often preying on chickens belonging to residents who have mysteriously disappeared.

According to the owner of the house, resident of RT 03/04, Cilangkap, Cipayung, he reported to the firefighters to evacuate the snake.

"I was surprised that there was a snake. Luckily the officers came quickly, the snake was caught quickly", said the resident, who declined to give his name, Monday, December 20.

Officers had difficulty because the snake was in a narrow place. However, officers managed to catch a five-meter-long python by pulling the snake's head slowly.

Head of the Operations Section of the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. Gatot Sulaeman acknowledged that there were obstacles during the evacuation process.

"Evacuation of pythons is hampering access to small alleys and there is a chicken coop which is an obstacle. Evacuation of snakes takes 1 hour because the search takes a long time", he said when confirmed by reporters, Monday, December 20.

The snake, he continued, was five meters long hiding in the chicken coop.

"The snake we get is quite large", he said.

Separately, officers also evacuated a 60-centimeter-long cobra in the closet of a resident's house in the Rawadas area, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta.

Slowly and carefully, the officers tried to evacuate the cobra cubs from the closets of the residents' rooms.

For 45 minutes, officers managed to catch a cobra hiding in the crevices of the wardrobe.

"It is known that when the occupants of the house opened the cupboard, it turned out that there was a snake in the cupboard", said Gatot.

His party has evacuated two snakes of different types and succeeded.

"The snake was chased and went under the cupboard. Residents immediately called the fire department and we caught the snake", he concluded.
