Fisherman In Tanjungbalai, North Sumatra Gets 21 Kg Of Methamphetamine Floating In The Sea

Release of methamphetamine case in Tanjungbalai, North Sumatra/POLICE DOC

MEDAN - A fisherman named Syaiful Sambas alias Ipul (44) was arrested by the Narcotics Unit of the Tanjungbalai Police, North Sumatra. From his hands, the police confiscated 21 kg of crystal methamphetamine which he got floating in the sea.

Tanjungbalai Police Chief, AKBP Triyadi, said the officers obtained the illicit goods in 2 different locations. He explained that the arrest began when officers received information that a man was offering methamphetamine.

"Then the officers investigated by impersonating the buyer at an agreed price of IDR 250 million per kg. The officers and the perpetrators agreed to meet on the North Ring Road", said AKBP Triyadi when the case was released, Thursday, December 15.

Furthermore, at around 12.30 WIB, the suspect came to the agreed location. As soon as they saw his arrival, the police immediately made an arrest.

"A transparent plastic bag weighing 1021.18 grams was found, allegedly containing methamphetamine wrapped in black plastic. During interrogation, the suspect admitted that he had other items stored on Hj Nui Island in Asahan River Waters, Sei Kepayang District, Asahan Regency", explained AKBP Triyadi.

Based on the suspect's statement, officers then took him by riding 2-speed boats to Hj Nui Island in the Asahan River, Asahan Regency. Precisely the land/mangrove forest on the edge of the Asahan River.

"Then the operational drug unit team found evidence of 2 blue sacks tied to a log. When and the number was counted in front of the suspect, 20 plastic bags of Chinese tea weighing 20,921.53 grams were suspected to contain narcotics of methamphetamine type", he said.

To the officers, the suspect admitted that he found the illicit goods drifting in the waters of the Apung River, Sei Apung Village, Tanjungbalai District, Asahan Regency. According to the plan, the suspect will sell the methamphetamine for IDR 150 million per kilo with a total profit of IDR 3.1 billion.

Currently, the suspect and the evidence are being held at the Tanjungbalai Police Station. To the suspect, the police charged him with Article 112 (2) yo 114 (2) Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

"The threat of a minimum sentence of 5 years is a maximum of 20 years of life", said AKBP Triyadi.
