JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, explained the reason his party only allowed officials at echelon I level and above, including members of the DPR, to self-quarantine after returning from abroad.

Wiku said that the discretion to allow quarantine at their respective residences was aimed at keeping the government service system to the public from being disrupted.

"Giving discretion in the form of the authority to choose a place for self-quarantine facilities or reducing the duration of quarantine to echelon I officials and above who carry out state duties solely to ensure that public services can continue to carry out their duties for the benefit of the community," Wiku said in a virtual press conference, Thursday. , December 16.

However, said Wiku, the granting of discretion is limited and selective. Considering that the government's priority is to minimize the potential for case imports. The family or entourage of the official is also prohibited from participating in self-quarantine.

"The thing to remember is that this policy applies individually," said Wiku.

For this reason, Wiku asks anyone who has the authority to apply for self-quarantine discretion to exercise their rights responsibly.

Because, continued Wijku, every international traveler has the same risk of transmitting COVID-19 as other people.

"So, it was determined that this description still requires public services to continue to quarantine. In addition, quarantine is also required to report daily health conditions for retest and apply health protocols in a disciplined manner," he added.
