Debt Collector In North Sumatra Coal Burns The Customer's House

MEDAN - The man with the initials RFL was arrested by the police in Batubara Regency, North Sumatra with the initials RFL. This debt collector burned the house of his customer, Rahmat (52) when collecting debts.

Head of the Coal Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Ferry Khusnadi, said the incident occurred at the victim's house in Sei Bejangkar District, Tuesday, November 23.

"The suspect, RFL, has collected money from the cooperative from the victim's wife", said AKP Ferry in his statement, Wednesday, December 15.

When collecting debt, RFL forced the victim's wife to immediately pay off her debt. Not long after, Rahmat, who was previously outside, returned to his house to meet the RFL. Without thinking the RFL collects the debt to Rahmat.

"Rahmat (then) said later we don't have any money.' RFL also responded with the words 'pay it'", he said.

At the time of the incident, RFL noticed that there was Pertalite fuel oil in the bucket. Rahmat is known daily as a retail fuel seller.

RFL then threatened to ignite the bucket if he did not pay the debt.

"'If I turn on the matchstick here, will this oil catch or not? Rahmat who saw it forbade the RFL to light the match", he explained.

"Without realizing it, Rahmat lit a match near the fuel which was being packed per liter by Rahmat. Then the fire grabbed and made Rahmat also burn in the leg", he continued.

While trying to extinguish the fire in his pants, sparks also grabbed the wall of Rahmat's house, which is a semi-permanent building.

"Rahmat immediately asked residents for help, while saving his wife and child", he said.

At the time of the incident, Rahmat with his wife and child managed to survive. But his house burned down. Meanwhile, the RFL fled to Riau.

According to AKP Ferry, RFL had been on the run for 10 days, before finally being arrested at the boarding house.

"RFL was arrested while resting in a boarding house at the time", he said.

When arrested, the RFL admitted his actions. He was charged with Article 187 subsidiary to Article 188 of the Criminal Code

"The threat is a maximum prison sentence of 12 years in prison", said AKP Ferry.
