JAKARTA - The Indonesian film industry shows its defenses in 2024. After facing the pandemic, cinema in Indonesia began to present many new players with various stories.

Interestingly, now Indonesian films adapt a lot of stories from various mediums in the form of films. Both from internet stories, short films, to threads that went viral on the X account to three main sources from today's Indonesian films.

Sekawan Limo tells the story of Bagas (Bayu Skak) who goes climbing Mount Madyopuro with Lenni (Nadya Arina), Dicky (Firza Valaza), Juna (Benidictus Siregar), and Andrew (Indra Pramujito). They have to go in groups even and cannot turn around, but they fail and cause horror events to start approaching those who realize that one of them is not human.

Badarawuhi in Penari Village tells the story of Mila (Maudy Effrosina) with Yuda (Jourdy Pranata), Arya (Ardit Erwandha), and Jito (Iqbal Sulaiman) going to a village believed to be the Dancer Village. They found Badarawuhi's antique bracelet which was said to be able to cure Mila's mother's disease.

Hanung Bramantyo entered this list with the film Ipar Is Death which managed to get 4,775,315 viewers. Adapted from the story on TikTok, the film Ipar Is Death tells the story of the household of Nisa (Michelle Ziudith) and Aris (Deva Mahenra) who was shaken after the presence of Nisa's younger brother named Rani (Davina Karamoy) who is an affair with Aris.

Adapted from the film Thailand hit, Kang Mak from Pee Mak by Herwin Novianto gathered 4,860,034 viewers. Kang Mak from Pee Mak tells the story of Kang Mak (Vino G. Bastian) who works in the military and returns home without knowing his wife, Sari (Marsha Timothy) died pregnant.

The film, directed by Anggy Umbara, received 5,815,492 viewers and was in second place. Adapted from a story called real, this film tells the story of Vina (Nayla D. Purnama) who was found dead in a pathetic manner. On the sixth day after his death, his best friend experienced a riot of Vina's spirit which called the incident that made him die.

The film Partite Laen by Muhadkly Acho occupies the first position for the best-selling Indonesian film this year. Approximately Laen is an original story with four main characters from the somewhat Laen siniar group who managed with 9,125,188 viewers. It's a bit Laen tells the story of Boris (Boris Bokir), Bene (Bene Dion), Oki (Oki Rengga), and Jegel (Indra Jegel) who have to take care of their ghost house after someone dies there.
