JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo said, Indonesia is lucky because the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbud Ristek), Nadiem Makarim has experience in the field of technology.

This was conveyed by Jokowi at the inauguration of the Digital Generation Acceleration Movement in Jakarta, Wednesday, December 15. The event was watched virtually through the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.

"This country will progress if we can jump. And the most difficult thing is how to prepare digital talent, bring in mentors with good qualifications. We are lucky that our Minister of Education has experience in technology companies. Mas Nadiem, we are very lucky," said Jokowi was quoted from Antara.

Jokowi said that Nadiem Makarim was always able to answer and provide alternative solutions to questions related to efforts to prepare digital talents.

"I ask questions, they are always answered very quickly. 'How is this, I don't want only 1-2 thousand, I want millions'. (Answered) 'Yes sir. Independent campuses, independent learning'. The way, yes, was conveyed by the Minister earlier," said Jokowi.

Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia has a very large digital market. Indonesia needs to prepare a strategy so as not to be left far behind by other countries.

"If we can't prepare this, it will be very difficult for us to catch up with other countries. And the key is once again in large numbers. Therefore I ask all big companies, technology, to be willing to do internships for our students, children us. So that everything changes quickly. There is a digital mindset. Digital skills are there. So that a digital culture is formed in our country," concluded Jokowi.
