PADANG - The Padang District Attorney, West Sumatra, has named the Manager of the Sharia Financing Savings and Loans Cooperative (KSPPS) BMT Koto Lua, Pauh District, Padang City, with the initials EO as a suspect.

EO was named a suspect for allegedly misappropriating cooperative funds with capital from the Padang Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) for personal interests.

"EO was named a suspect after investigators found two valid pieces of evidence in this case," said Padang Attorney General Ranu Subroto, accompanied by the Head of Special Crimes Section Therry Gutama, quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 9.

The suspect was charged with Article 2 paragraph (1), Article 3, and Article 9 Juncto (Jo) Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.

However, the Prosecutor's Office has not detained the suspect because the subjective and objective conditions have not been fulfilled as stipulated in Article 21 of the Criminal Code.

Before establishing EO as a suspect, the Prosecutor's Office previously examined 22 witnesses and confiscated more than one hundred documents as evidence.

Therry explained that the investigation of the case began with a report received from the public, then followed up by his party by conducting an investigation on January 18, 2021.

From the results of the investigation, the team finally found a criminal act so that the case process was immediately raised to the investigation stage in March 2021.

He said KSPS Koto Lua is one of the cooperatives that received capital participation in the form of grants sourced from the Padang Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) in 2011 amounting to Rp. 300 million.

In his journey as a manager, EO is suspected of having made fictitious financing from cooperative money which was allegedly used for personal interests.

"The fictitious financing was carried out 44 times in a way that was not in accordance with the cooperative's SOP and SOM," he explained.

As a result, there was money amounting to Rp.267,520,000 which the suspect could not account for. The money is considered a state financial loss because it comes from the Padang City Regional Budget.
