JAKARTA - The police foiled an attempt to smuggle 800 pieces of LSD or Lysergic Acid Diethylamide by an international network. The narcotics, popularly known as Paper Dewa, were sent from Canada.

"LSD goods come from outside, yes, from Canada", said Director of Drug Investigation of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Mukti Juharsa. to reporters on Thursday, December 9.

LSD smuggling, said Mukti, has indeed increased quite a bit by the end of this year. In fact, the circulation of LSD narcotics has not been heard in the last few years.

In addition, based on preliminary investigations and investigations, the hundreds of LSD sheets will indeed be circulated in Jakarta.

"This is increasing at the end of the year, this is a rare item. It used to be in the 80s, now it's appearing again", said Mukti.

"The effect is more dangerous than the others because it has a higher hallucinatory power. Its spread is in Jakarta", he continued.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes E. Zulpan, said that it was not only LSD whose circulation had been thwarted. This is because the team working with customs also thwarted the smuggling of dozens of kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.

"Where the narcotics that were successfully secured as evidence in this crime were 16.88 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 800 pieces of LSD", said Zulpan

The smuggling mode used is by entering it into vehicle spare parts imported from various countries.

"These are imported from abroad including from Congo, Uganda, China and also from Canada", he said.

"They send them by tricking the officers, as seen here, items such as spare parts are a tool to trick and hide the smuggled narcotics", continued Zulpan.

In the disclosure of drug smuggling, a total of 39 people were arrested and designated as suspects. All of them are Indonesian citizens.

"Metro Jaya Police has secured and arrested and detained and named 39 suspects", said Zulpan.

Currently, dozens of suspects have been detained at the Metro Jaya Police detention center. They were charged with Article 114 paragraph 2, 112 paragraph 2, then 111 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 132 of Law Number 35 of 2009 with a minimum penalty of 5 years in prison up to the death penalty.
