Dusun Kamar Kajang Flood Due To Semeru Lava Material Closed River Flow Area

LUMAJANG - Kamar Kajang hamlet in Sumberwuluh Village, Lumajang Regency, East Java was hit by floods due to heavy rains that flushed the local village plus a watershed (DAS) covered in cold lava material from Mount Semeru.

"The Hamlet of Kamar Kajang, Sumberwuluh Village, Candipuro District has been hit by river flooding since Tuesday (7/12) night until this morning," said Sumberwuluh Village Head Abdul Aziz, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 8.

He said the overflowing water carrying mud material caused the roads and houses of residents in Kamar Kajang Hamlet to flood with a depth of 50 centimeters to 100 centimeters.

"All roads and houses along the road are buried by mud because the watershed is covered by Mount Semeru's lava material," he said.

For initial handling, he continued, the TNI/Polri and BPBD evacuated residents and created a water flow to reduce the flow of stagnant water in the hamlet, then cleaned the mud material that covered the roads and residents' houses.

"There has been a diversion of water flow with all members of the TNI/Polri and BPBD, so it is hoped that puddles mixed with mud can be reduced," he said.

Previously, heavy rains flushed settlements in the area around Mount Semeru, including in the area of Sumberwuluh Village, Candipuro District, on Tuesday, December 7 evening.

According to ANTARA's observation from the front of the local village hall, the rain lasted for almost an hour, causing some residents to panic.

It was seen that there were elderly women who chose to go to the refugee camps when the rain subsided, and a number of men passed by and coordinated with the village officials.
