JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo is scheduled for Wednesday, December 8 to review the work on flood management in Sintang, West Kalimantan in the form of an embankment made of "geobag" or a special bag filled with sand.

The work on the embankment made of "geobag" is located on the banks of the Melawi River, Ladang Village. The construction of Sintang District is currently being pursued as an effort to overcome the flood problem in the area.

"We as residents really appreciate Mr. Jokowi's plan to directly review the manufacture of geobags, hopefully with the geobags we can overcome flooding in Sintang," said a resident of Ladang Village, Sintang District. Eman Subekti (42), told Antara, at the geobag construction site, in Ladang Village, Sintang District, West Kalimantan, Tuesday.

Eman conveyed that the community supports the government's efforts to build geobags, with the hope that in the future it can minimize the occurrence of floods that often inundate the Sintang area.

"We only ask for a solution later so that the community It's not difficult to access the river because of the geobag, so that needs to be a concern for the government as well," asked Eman.

Previously, Construction Manager of PT Wijaya Karya (Wika) Daniel Resdianto, told reporters on Thursday, November 25 that the construction concepts of geobags (sand bags) and geotubes (sand tubes) are about 13.2 kilometers long and are divided into three areas.

"For the initial stage, we will do it at the confluence of the Melawi River and the Kapuas River," he explained.

He said the embankment made of sandbags was the fastest and most effective in dealing with the La Nina threat which is predicted to occur in February 2022.

"With the development of this technology, we can minimize the impact of flooding which will be predicted in February 2022. The target is that it will be completed before February," said Daniel.
