Washing Clothes In The River, Grandma In Banyuwangi Was Swept Away By The Strong Current And Disappeared

BANYUWANGI - Sutiah (70), a resident of Wongsorejo, Banyuwangi, East Java, was swept away by the river current. So far, the whereabouts of the victims are still unknown.

The local Village Babinsa Serma Nurhadi said the incident occurred on Friday, December 3 at around 13.00 WIB. At that time the victim and a friend were washing clothes in the river.

"Immediately it rained, and made the river flow harder. Victims who could not withstand the rush of water then drifted away," he said.

At that time, the victim's friend tried to help. But unfortunately the water was so swift that it dragged the grandmother.

"At that time his friend helped by grabbing the victim's hand, but to no avail," said Serma Nurhadi.

So far, the victim has not been found. Residents together with BPBD and TNI and Polri are still searching.

"We continue to search the river hoping that the victim can be found soon. Let's pray that Ms. Sutiah is found soon," he said.
