Singapore Supports Indonesia's Efforts To Tackle Radicalism

JAKARTA - The Singaporean government supports the efforts of the Indonesian government in dealing with acts of terrorism and radicalism by establishing stronger bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

This was conveyed by Singapore's Coordinating Minister for National Security, Teo Chee Hean, when he met with Vice President Ma'ruf Amin at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, December 1.

"I really appreciate the views of the Vice President on cooperation in the field of counter-extremism. I understand that the Vice President has a lot of expertise in this field", Teo said as quoted by Antara.

Singapore continues to be committed to global efforts to prevent and combat radicalization and violent extremism.

Indonesia and Singapore have agreed and signed a cooperation agreement between the two countries in the Counter-Terrorism Information Facility (CTIF) operation to strengthen diplomacy and defense-related to terrorism issues through the exchange of information.

In addition to Indonesia and Singapore, CTIF has members from the region, namely Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Thailand, Australia, the United States, and New Zealand.

The CTIF Forum is a medium for early detection and prevention of acts of terrorism in the region by exchanging information using technology.

In addition to the issue of counter-radicalization, Vice President Ma'ruf and Minister Teo discussed bilateral cooperation efforts in the economic and education sectors.

The Vice President welcomed the cooperation agreement between Indonesia and Singapore in the field of education to improve the quality of human resources (HR) of the two countries.

"The cooperation plan is to encourage the improvement of the quality of human resources who are superior and able to face various challenges in the future", said the Vice President.
