Bobby Nasution Leads Medan Flood Evaluation Meeting, Asks 1,514 Flood Points To Be Reduced

MEDAN - Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution chaired a flood evaluation meeting in Medan. Bobby Nasution asked for a clear target for the number of flooded areas that could be reduced.

The meeting was attended by the Medan City Secretary, Wiriya Alrahman, assistants, OPD leaders, and sub-district heads throughout the city of Medan. Bobby Nasution again reminded the Public Works Office along with the Head of UPT and regional heads in the sub-district to know in detail and for sure the condition of drainage and the location of puddles in their area and their handling from upstream to downstream.

Bobby Nasution also targets that the flood inundation points in Medan City can be reduced in the near future.

"Our target is that the flood point can be reduced. The intensity of the flood can be reduced, the area of the inundation can be reduced," said Bobby Nasution, quoted from a statement from the Medan City Government Communications and Information Office, Friday, November 26.

Pemko Medan, he continued, has 5 UPT PU whose territory covers 21 sub-districts.

"The most important thing is that the water flow from upstream to downstream can flow well," he said.

Bobby Nasution said the Pemko will map the flow from the highest area in Medan, namely in the Medan Tuntungan sub-district to the downstream area.

"Therefore, what we conveyed earlier is that the continuity between the upstream flow in Medan City, which is in Tuntungan to the downstream flow, must be either between drainage or tributaries in Medan City," he said.

Bobby Nasution said that there were 1,514 flood points in Medan City.

"We can still reduce our target. However, the results of the evaluation have not been able to determine how many points can be reduced. So I ask that next Wednesday it can be determined," he said.

Separately, the Acting Head of the Medan City Public Works Agency, Ferri Ichsan said that his party will conduct an analysis of flood management to be presented on Wednesday, December 1.

"We were asked to sharpen the analysis of planning for handling drainage problems. Later on Wednesday we will present it again to the Mayor," said Ferri.
