JAKARTA - As many as 20 people were caught littering at Kramat Jati Market, East Jakarta, Wednesday, November 24, early in the morning. Joint officers have given sanctions to the perpetrators.

The head of the Environmental Implementation Unit (Kasatpel) of Kramat Jati Sub-district, Amri Restu Rianto, said in Jakarta, Wednesday, that 20 residents who were caught littering were given sanctions in the form of fines.

The total fine of 20 violators is IDR 810.000 which is directly deposited to the Regional Treasury of DKI Jakarta Province.

"The sanctions are in accordance with Regional Regulation Number 3 of 2013 concerning waste management and violations of littering with a maximum fine of IDR 500.000," Amri said.

A total of 15 joint officers from the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service, East Jakarta Environmental Sub-Department and East Jakarta Metro Police were involved in the activity.

Residents caught in the act of throwing garbage mostly used motorized vehicles, both cars and motorbikes, under the People's Crossing Bridge (JPO) at Pasar Pagi Kramat Jati.

Amri hopes that this activity will make residents aware of maintaining a clean environment and no longer littering.

He also appealed to residents to start sorting to reduce waste in the DKI Jakarta area, especially East Jakarta, in accordance with the 2020 DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation concerning Waste Segregation at Source.

"I hope this activity will have a deterrent effect on people who are still throwing garbage on the shoulder of the road that are not on the road."
