268.95 Hectares Of Agricultural Land In East Java Affected By Floods

SURABAYA - The East Java Department of Agriculture and Food Security (Distan) noted that there were 268.95 hectares of agricultural land affected by the flood. This happened in a number of areas in East Java.

"The additional planting area affected by the disaster is 268.95 hectares, that's a cumulative total from October 1 to November 15 2021. Meanwhile, those experiencing puso or crop failure are 0.1 hectares," said Head of the East Java Distan, Hadi Sulistyo, confirmed, Tuesday , November 22.

The 268.95 hectares of agricultural land, continued Hadi, are spread over several areas in East Java. In detail, Gresik 101 hectares, Jember 75 hectares, Lumajang 59.5 hectares, Lamongan 20 hectares, Pacitan 13.20 hectares, Malang 0.25 hectares and Puso 0.1 hectares.

Meanwhile, for corn plants, Hadi said, the additional area affected by the flood was around 1230.20 hectares and Puso 25 hectares. Cumulatively in the 2021/2022 planting season (1 October to 15 November), 1311.20 hectares were affected by the disaster and 40 hectares in puso.

"For details, Tulungagung Regency was affected by 1023 hectares, Lumajang Regency was affected by 80 hectares and Puso 25 hectares and Jember Regency 127.20 hectares. Then peanuts, additional planting area affected by flooding were 15 hectares and green beans were nine hectares in Tulungagung," he said.

Hadi suggested that farmers are advised to have rice farming insurance (AUTP) and free seed assistance for those who have experienced crop failure. However, AUTP is currently still accommodating for rice commodities, so that horticultural commodities are not covered.

"For rice plants, if the damage to the plant is more than 70 percent, then an insurance claim can be proposed with a recommendation from the Plant Destruction Organisms Control Officer (POPT)," he said.
