15 KM Sabang Crew Members Were Successfully Evacuated By The Joint Team, 2 People Suffered Burns

JAKARTA - A total of 15 crew members (ABK) KM Sabang that caught fire in the Nasik Strait, Belitung were evacuated by joint officers. Of the many crew members who were evacuated, it was recorded that 2 people suffered burns.

"A total of 15 people were on board, two suffered burns and 13 survived," said Head of the Belitung Police Chief of Staff, AKP M. Syarifudin Ginting in Tanjung Pandan, quoting Antara, Saturday, November 20.

He said KM Sabang experienced a fire accident in the waters of Mendanau Island, Nasik Strait, Belitung or about 15 nautical miles from the Tanjung Pandan coast, while looking for fish.

"KM Sabang is a fishing vessel originating from outside Belitung Island," he said.

According to him, the fire was thought to have been caused by sparks from the ship's main engine room.

"So that two crew members suffered serious burns due to fire bursts from the ship's engine room and have been rushed to the hospital for treatment and care," he said.

He added that currently the 15 crew members had been successfully evacuated while the ship's position was still in the middle of the ocean because the ship's engine was damaged. The evacuation process was carried out by a joint team from the Polairud Directorate of the Bangka Belitung Police, the Belitung Police Satpolair, the Navy and the Pangkal Pinang Port Health Office (KKP) Tanjungpandan working area.

"After the evacuation, we will then ask the crew for information about what happened," he said. Previously, it was reported that KM Sabang caught fire in the waters of the Nasik Strait, Belitung, Saturday, November 20, morning. The fire of the fishing boat did not cause any casualties. Two of the victims suffered burns and were rushed to a nearby hospital.
