Floods And Landslides Occur In 2 Jember Districts, Hundreds Of Residents Are Evacuated At Night

JEMBER - Floods and landslides hit two sub-districts in Jember Regency, East Java, so that hundreds of residents affected by floods were evacuated by officers to safe places on Thursday, November 18th.

Based on data from the Jember BPBD, it was recorded that 79 houses and three public facilities were affected by flooding in three villages spread over two sub-districts, so that 300 people were affected and evacuated on Thursday night and now all residents have returned to their homes.

"There are three locations of floods and landslides that occurred in Bangsalsari and Tanggul sub-districts," said Secretary of the Jember Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Heru Widagdo when contacted in Jember, reported by Antara, Friday, November 19.

The location of the first flood was in Bangsalsari Village, Bangsalsari Sub-district which caused 20 houses to be flooded with a height of almost 1 meter and the walls of the Bangsalsari MHI Islamic Boarding School collapsed along 10 meters, so that students were evacuated to a safe place.

The embankment submerged as many as 59 houses with a water level of about 20-80 cm, then one prayer room was also affected by flooding, and seven vulnerable groups, namely toddlers and the elderly, were temporarily evacuated to a safe place.

Not only floods, but landslides also occurred in Banjarsari Village, Bangsalsari District which resulted in the closure of the 35-meter road, and the assessment process was still being carried out by volunteers from the Jember BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC).

"This morning the flooding in several locations has begun to recede and leaves a little water mixed with mud, so the officers carry out the cleaning process and residents who have fled to return to their homes," he said.

The Regent of Jember and his entourage are scheduled to visit several flood and landslide locations in Tanggul and Bangsalsari Districts on Friday morning.

Previously, floods and landslides on Wednesday, November 10 hit eight villages in three sub-districts, namely Semboro, Tanggul, and Sumberbaru sub-districts with 1,294 houses affected, two houses heavily damaged, and six public facilities also damaged.
