Although A Member Of The MUI, The Alleged Terrorist Ahmad Zain Has No Right To Determine A Fatwa

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) stated that Ahmad Zain An Najah was not fully involved in making the fatwa. Because, in the organizational structure, Ahmad Zain, only as a member.

"In the whole process of forming or issuing fatwas, he was a member. This means that he does not have full voting rights", said Central MUI Extremism and Terrorism Agency (BPET) member, Makmun Rasyid, to reporters, Wednesday, November 17.

In making the fatwa, Ahmad Zain only gave his views. However, it does not have the authority to determine the process of making a fatwa.

"In the process of making the fatwa, the person concerned only gives his perspective, but does not affect the policies issued by the MUI fatwa commission itself", said Makmun.

With this problem, continued Makmun, MUI will tighten or be more selective in the recruitment process. For example by tracing the background and so on.

"This means that MUI's commitment to preventing and overcoming extremism and terrorism cannot be doubted", said Makmun.

"Then we will do very strict recruitment", he continued.

Previously reported, Densus 88 Anti-terror arrested three suspected terrorists of the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) network in Bekasi, West Java. They include Farid Okbah, Ahmad Zain An-Najah, and Anung Al-Hamat.

The suspected terrorist Ahmad Zain was arrested by Densus 88 Anti-terror on Tuesday, November 16th. The arrest took place at his residence in the Pondok Melati area, Bekasi, West Java.

Ahmad Zain is a member of the MUI management. He is listed as a member of the Central MUI Fatwa Commission.
