Jokowi Leads Hero's Day Commemoration Ceremony At Kalibata Heroes Cemetery

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) led a ceremony to commemorate Heroes' Day. The ceremony was held at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, Tuesday, November 10 at around 08.00 western Indonesia time.

From the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube show, Jokowi was accompanied by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin. Jokowi is seen wearing a dark blue suit complete with a black cap and mask while Ma'ruf wears a gray suit, black cap, and wears a black mask.

All ceremony participants who attended the activity followed strict health protocols such as wearing masks and keeping a distance. This was done because the ceremony was held in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the ceremony, respect for the heroes who have fallen and been buried at TMP Kalibata is held.

After the salute was given, the siren sounded for a long time. This was done to commemorate the outbreak of the 10 November incident in Surabaya which was later commemorated as Heroes' Day.

Furthermore, President Jokowi led a procession of silence accompanied by music. "To commemorate the services of the nation's heroes and warriors, a moment of silence has begun," said Jokowi.

Before the event ended, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta had time to lay a wreath which was then followed by a prayer reading led by the Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

"O God who teaches loyalty. O God who adorns noble personalities with patience. O God who commands humans to be grateful for fellow humans, as You commanded us to worship You and create the universe. Reprimand us with the gentleness of Your mercy if I'm not good at being grateful for the gift called Freedom of Indonesia," Yaqut said in his prayer.
