Bali Emergency Waste, Governor Koster Arranges Source-Based Management In Villages

KLUNGKUNG - Bali Governor, Wayan Koster, said that Bali is currently in a waste emergency condition. Koster emphasized the need for a source-based waste management program.

"Bali is in a state of waste emergency. So the source-based waste management program is urgently needed to be implemented in the village (or) sub-district and traditional villages", said Koster in his written statement, Monday, November 8.

To achieve this, the Bali Provincial Government regulates a source-based waste management program as outlined in the Bali Governor Regulation (Pergub) Number 47 of 2019, concerning the Governor's Decree Number 381/03-P/HK/2021 concerning guidelines for source-based waste management in villages or sub-districts and Traditional Villages.

The Governor's Decree regulates source-based waste management strategies in villages or sub-districts and Traditional Villages, including limiting behaviors that produce a lot of waste, requiring residents to sort waste at household.

Then prohibit residents from throwing garbage into other villages and Traditional Villages, prohibiting residents from throwing trash out of place, limiting the use of single-use plastic materials by Government Regulation Number 97 of 2018.

"To prohibit residents from throwing garbage in lakes, river springs, and seas by Bali Governor Regulation Number 24 of 2020", he added.

Governor Koster reminded all stakeholders on the island of Bali to carry out source-based waste management.

"Our goal is to complete waste from upstream to downstream", he said.

In addition, his party specifically asked the Regent of Klungkung to carry out waste management.

Koster hopes that by 2022, as many as 636 villages in Bali will be able to implement the regulation.

"This vision is to maintain a clean, green, beautiful, and quality natural environment by developing a Balinese manner of life-based on Sad Kerthi philosophical values, namely Atma Kerthi, Danu Kerthi, Wana Kerthi, Segara Kerthi, Jana Kerthi, and Jagat Kerthi", said Koster.
