Find One Pharmaceutical Factory Disposing Of Paracetamol Waste In Jakarta Bay, DKI Provincial Government Gives Reprimand Sanctions

JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, said that his party had found a pharmaceutical company that was responsible for polluting the paracetamol content in Jakarta Bay.

The pharmaceutical factory had the initials MEP. Asep said, this factory is located in an area adjacent to the coast of Jakarta, North Jakarta.

"There is already a factory identified in the Jakarta Bay area, the initials are MEP. It's a pharmacy. It has been proven that it has levels of COD and BOD, and has also been proven to dispose of its sewage treatment plant which was not implemented properly," said Asep at the DKI DPRD Building, Central Jakarta. , Monday, November 8th.

On the findings that prove that the MEP factory is the source of the paracetamol contamination, the DKI Provincial Government has given administrative sanctions in the form of a written warning.

In addition, MEPs are required to build a wastewater treatment plant (IPAL) or an integrated sewage treatment plant (IPLT) for 3 to 4 months.

"We ask them to repair the IPLT, the waste treatment installation first, here. As for the duration, what is clear is that building the IPLT will take at least 3-4 months. We'll try to check, after 3-4 months, whether he will repair the the IPLT," explained Asep.

So far, Asep admitted that his party did not know about the opportunities for other pharmaceutical factories to pollute Jakarta Bay. "The results of our investigation have only arrived at the factory. They are indeed proven not to do well in processing their waste," he added.

For information, after the uproar over the finding of paracetamol content whose samples were taken in 2017, DKI took samples of Jakarta seawater again on October 2.

After completing the study, the Head of the DKI LH Department, Asep Kuswanto, said that currently the paracetamol content is still contaminating the sea water of Teuk Jakarta. However, not as many as the findings of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in 2017.

"Our study has been completed for the paracetamol. Indeed, the value we get is not as big as that available or released by BRIN. But the content is around 200 nanograms. The BRIN is around 600 nanograms," said Asep.
