Floods Up To 3 Meters In Sintang Regency, 21 Thousand Houses Are Submerged

JAKARTA - Floods hit Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan. According to an interim report from the Sintang Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the flood submerged around 21,000 houses.

There are also the number of affected residents as many as 24,522 families or 87,496 people. Apart from houses, the flood also submerged places of worship and 5 bridge units.

Acting Head of BNPB Disaster Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said that this high intensity rain had started to occur in the last two weeks.

"The floods have occurred due to high-intensity rains since the last two weeks, since Thursday, October 21, at 10:00 WIB, with a water level of about 300 centimeters (3 meters)," said Abdul Muhari in his statement, Friday, November 5.

BPBD Sintang is still collecting data on people who died and those who were injured. Abdul Muhari said, based on temporary records as of Thursday, November 4, as many as 2 people died.

"One person who died was found in Tempunak District and the other in Binjai District," he said.

Until now, there are 12 sub-districts that are still flooded, including Kayan Hulu District, Kayan Hilir District, Binjai Hulu District, Sintang District, Sepauk District, Temunak District, Ketungau Hilir District, Dedai District, Serawai District, Ambalau District, Sei District. Tebelian and the District of Kelam Permai.

The Sintang Regency Government has established a flood emergency response status, which is valid from 19 October to 16 November 2021.

"According to the local BPBD report, currently the conditions on the provincial-district cross roads are still impassable for vehicles because the roads are still flooded. In addition, access to electricity and communication in the field is still constrained," he explained.
