Jakarta's Unemployment Rate Drops 2.45 Percent Last Year

JAKARTA - The open unemployment rate (TPT) of DKI Jakarta for the past year has decreased by 2.45 percent, from August 2020 to August 2021. This is recorded in the release of the DKI Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

"We note that the largest decrease in the open unemployment rate occurred in Jakarta, which was 2.45 percent", said Head of BPS DKI, Buyung Airlangga, in a virtual press conference, Friday, November 5.

This means that during the past year, the absorption of labor in Jakarta occurred as many as 78 thousand people and a decrease in the number of unemployed by 133 thousand people.

Currently, the TPT in DKI Jakarta is 8.50 percent after a decline. Despite experiencing the highest decline rate in Indonesia, TPT in Jakarta is still above the national TPT of 6.49 percent.

Buyung said that the decline in Jakarta's TPT occurred for both men and women. In proportion, the decrease in TPT for women is greater than for men.

"The data shows a 2.64 percent decrease in women's TPT while men's by 2.33 percent", said Buyung.

This decrease in TPT occurred in all regencies/cities in Jakarta except for the Thousand Islands Regency.

The largest decline in TPT occurred in South Jakarta, which was 3.46 percent. The highest TPT occurred in North Jakarta at 9.84 percent, while the lowest was in South Jakarta at 7.33 percent.

According to the highest level of education completed, unemployment decreased at all levels of education from the elementary school down to university graduates.

"The largest decrease in the number of unemployed occurred in high school graduates, which decreased by around 50 thousand people. The highest TPT occurred in high school and vocational high school graduates, which were 10.85 and 10.70 percent, respectively", he concluded.
