JAKARTA - Bogor-based punk rock band The Jansen is back with a bang through their latest work. The band, which is led by Bani Satria and Adji Pamungkas, has officially launched a new single titled "if we grow up later".

This song was chosen as the second single for their upcoming full-length album, "Impulsive Romanticism". Previously, The Jansen had previously introduced the opening number through the track titled "bila cinta adalah sebuah propaganda (wo ai ni)".

In their latest number, the group of AMI Awards winners tried to find a more personal and in-depth theme, namely the circle of childhood trauma. The inspiration for writing the lyrics was born from various literary references, one of which is the novel Orexas by Remy Sylado.

Adji said that he summarized various narratives about domestic family conflicts that are often encountered in real life and fictional works.

"I wrote this song after reading stories and diction from various sources. In it, I found things like 'papi is lost in his problems', 'mom doesn't care', and 'a mess in showing off socialites'," said Adji in his statement, Thursday, July 9.

According to the bassist, internal family problems and childhood wounds are very universal phenomena. However, the song "if we grow up later" is not written to insinuate the role of parents in the situation. Through the perspective of a fictional character, this song is composed with anger that still leaves room for hope.

"For me, many people must have childhood trauma. Every family has its own problems. If we just blame it, it will eventually go back to the situation. Every age is different. Our parents' lives are not as fortunate as ours, and their access to education is not like it is now," added Adji.

Instead of lamenting the situation, The Jansen slipped an important message for the younger generation to break the chain of wrong parenting for the future.

"I want the point not to be to blame, but more to 'stop at me'. Today we have access to psychology, parenting, and mental health awareness. This is the task of the younger generation: break the chain, so that later as parents we do not repeat the same thing," said the bassist.

Furthermore, Bani said, the lyrics offered by Adji immediately hit his mind. For him, this track represents the determination of a child who is struggling to prove his choice of life in the midst of a strange domestic situation.

"When Adji gave this lyric, the first thing that came to mind was a child's attempt to prove to his parents that the path he chose would not be in vain. The story reminds me of my life's journey which is almost similar and the tones were created in my head," said Bani.

The single "if we grow up later" can now be enjoyed on various digital music platforms, complete with the launch of a lyric video directed by Yustinus Kristianto.

Meanwhile, their main menu in the form of the album "Romantisasi Impulsif" is scheduled to be released digitally on July 22.

Not only digital format, The Jansen also ensures that this album will be distributed in physical form through cross-country cooperation. The vinyl (vinyl) and compact disc (CD) formats will be printed by the Japanese record label, P-Vine Records. As for the tape cassette format, it will be released through Miles Records, an independent label from Malaysia that actively supports underground music movements in Southeast Asia.
