Again and Again, Morrissey Starts 2026 with Five Cancelled Shows

JAKARTA - British musician and former vocalist of The Smiths, Morrissey, has once again attracted sharp criticism after canceling his fifth live performance in 2026.

This time, it's the fans in Florida who have to swallow the disappointment after the concert scheduled to take place at the Mahaffey Theater on January 20 was officially canceled.

This cancellation feels more painful because the schedule is a rescheduled date after Morrissey previously canceled a visit to the same location in May 2025.

Through discussions on the Reddit platform, a number of fans confirmed that they had received an email from the organizers stating that "artist illness" was the main reason for this sudden cancellation.

Ticketmaster through its official website has also announced a refund.

"Unfortunately, the event organizers were forced to cancel your event. You don't have to do anything. We will provide a refund to the original payment method used at the time of purchase, as soon as the funds are received from the event organizers," said Ticketmaster's announcement, quoted by NME, Wednesday, January 21.

This action of unplugging the schedule is actually not a new thing for the eccentric musician. Morrissey's track record of canceling concerts has been a "ghost" for promoters and fans for more than a decade.

Morrissey has canceled or postponed more than 200 shows since 2012. This fantastic figure confirms his reputation as one of the most unpredictable artists in the history of the modern music industry.

Throughout the United States tour in early 2026 which started in San Antonio, Morrissey has repeatedly disappointed his fans. He had previously canceled appearances in San Diego, St. Louis, and Atlanta.

For the concert in Atlanta, the reason given was similar, namely the artist's health problems. Meanwhile, one schedule in California had to be postponed because he had a "bad reaction to the drug".

Ironically, the cancellation of this marathon occurred in the midst of the promotion of his latest album titled "Make-Up Is A Lie". The album, which is scheduled to be released on March 6, marks Morrissey's return after six years of absence since the album "I Am Not A Dog On A Chain" (2020).

With the rest of the tour schedule still hanging, the public is again wondering whether the performance in Hollywood on Thursday, January 22, and the concert in London in February will actually be carried out or add to the long list of cancellations.
